Newtons second law of motion9/27/2023 ![]() So the net force is just F because that's the only force acting. So again, if you didn't try this before, great idea to pause andĬontinue this yourself. And now that we have our acceleration, well, we can just plug it in over here and we can calculate the net force. ![]() So 20 divided by five is four and the units are meters And so that gives usĢ0 minus zero is zero. So acceleration, a, is gonna be the v, that is 20 meters per second minus u, which is zero dividedīy t, which is five seconds. So you wanna give it a try first? Go ahead, give it a shot, pause the video and see if you can first And since everything is given to us, we can first calculate the acceleration and then we can plug in and then we'll calculate So it is v minus u, that is a change in velocity divided by time. How do we do that? Well, acceleration is a rateĪt which velocity is changing. So the first thing we need to do is calculate the acceleration. And once we do that, weĬan plug in over here and we can calculate We're given the final velocity and we're also given the time. So how do we calculate the force? Well, acceleration is not directly given but we are given the initial velocity. Since there's only oneįorce acting on that object, that is F that itself is our net force. So what is net force? Net force means the totalįorce acting on our object. The famous equation FĮquals ma is a connection between force and motion, right? So let's go ahead and use that equation. Which equation connects force and motion? Well, Newton's Second law. So what do we do? How do we calculate the force? Well, the important thing to notice is we are asked to calculate the force and we are given the details of motion, which means we need toĬonnect force and motion. So m is 60 kilograms and we need to calculate what the forces. What else are we given? Well, we are given the mass of that couch. We also know after five seconds, it has a final velocity And so its initial velocity is zero and usually we choose u as a letter for initial velocity. We need to calculate with what force someone ![]() Visualize this, right? And that's what we need to calculate. Must push on it, right? And so somebody should be Speeding up this couch, it's going from rest to motion and to do that, somebody Why should there be a force? Well, because we are Moving 20 meters per second, let's say to the right, That is five seconds later, it is found that it's So let's say it'sĪccelerated to the right. Let's say this is our couch which is at rest and it'sĪccelerated to 20 meters per second in five seconds. We have a couch which isĪccelerated from rest. Per second in five seconds on a frictionless surface. Kilogram was accelerated from rest to 20 meters Let's solve two problems on Newton's Second Law.
